Tohchukaso:
The fungi taking over a specific insect in its living state
Japanese
Tohchukaso is a fungus that becomes parasitic on the body of
a living insect and grows out of it. Not even every insect
is good for this purpose. The Chinese Tohchukaso is parasitic
only on a moth bat, while the Japanese Tohochukaso is Hachitake(Cordyceps
sphecocephala) parasitic on a bee, Semitake(Cordyceps sobolifera)
parasitic on a locust and so on, depending on the type of the
bacillus, the type of the insect on which it is parasitic is
fixed. The bacillus enters into the body of an insect through
the weaker portions like the mouth from which the insect takes
food and the respiratory system from where the external air
enters, flows along with the body fluid and grows itself by
decomposing the body fats and proteins, and ultimately the insect’s heart stops and the bacteria
spread throughout its body after its death. As a next stage,
the secondary spawn body (mycelium) ripens completely and mainly
in summer, the mushroom-like fruit (filial substance) breaks
out through the weaker parts of the outer shell. If the real
insect behind this mushroom is dissected, it can be observed
that the inside of the insect is completely filled with the
mycelium and all the internal organs are completely changed
to a white spawn body (mycelium). Therefore, the insect approaches
death as a fungus seizes its body in the living state. For an
insect, there might be no other existence more terrible than
this. But this strange property is thought to be useful for
cancer repulse.
If it is not
fresh, it does not affect
Japanese Tohchukaso;
Why “Japan” is appended specially?
Because, the Tohchukaso found in Japan is different in nature
than the one found in China, and above this, it can be expected
to have a function of “cancer defeating food.” If one goes through
the real examples collected in this material, it will be understandable
that the expectations about its good effects are becoming increasingly
stronger. While importing from China, it is an obligation to
sterilize the Tohchukaso with intense heat; therefore there
are great chances that its elements are disturbed due to this
heat. The imported Tohchukaso in a thermally sterilized and
dried form from China is thought to have lost the main elements
that attack against the cancer. As a matter of fact, though
Tohchukaso itself has an effect of nutrition sthenia and is
thought to recover the failed physical abilities, but to work
effectively against cancer, the fresh state is the best. In
short, the living state of the mycelium is first and most important
condition. The main elements of Tohchukaso useful for cancer
repulse are found in the secretions during the growing process,
and particularly in the breeding season, the strength of the
secreted metabolic elements is the highest. In simple words,
Tohchukaso taken as a Chinese crude drug can be regarded as
nothing more than the dead insect and mycelium both. Above this,
if this dead thing is thermally sterilized to bring into Japan,
it is natural that the secretions developed in the growing process
will no more be there in it.
